I make lots of circuit bent kit. I wish I had more time to make and use more but here is an idea of what I have been up to.

Make Controller

I got a Make Contoller for Crimbo - thanks dad & grandma. For those of you who don't know, it allows you to interface between the real world and a computer - and vice versa. So interactive art pieces, drawing machines, weather influenced Flash movies and various other mad contraptions are all within my reach now. So far I have made an odd software synth, triggered by the bend of your fingers and a (fairly pointless) light that inversely corresponds the brightness of a fullscreen Flash movie to the light in the room. I love you

The Black Box

I have finally gone beyond bending, into the realms of making stuff from scratch. Yes, it's from a kit and yes, I am not certain that it works 100%, but it makes lovely droney radiophonic workshop sounds and it looks wickeda woo. Inside the box is one of these - WSG

Our doorbell

When my lady friend brought back a shiny new electronic doorbell, I just couldn't resist.

Milkshake

Based on one of the cheapest guitar pedals out there, the DigiTech Milkshake Chorus, this is one of my favourite bends yet. It still works as a wildly exaggerated chorus with lots of nice controllable extra pops and splutters but it is also a pretty mental synth now... all with low pass and high pass distortion knobs too. Yay!

listen to it purrrrrrr

Vtech doll

This thing is the result of a trip to the local car boot sale and an overly kind seller. I am often asked who I am buying toys for and I don't feel right telling the sellers that I am going to mash the toys up for my own pleasure. As a result I told the lady selling this Vtech phone that I was buying it for a young lad. Then she found me looking at other toys that were aimed at girls...she again asked who I was buying for...I said the sister of the young boy. By this time, my lies were getting me out of my depth! When I said I didn't want her electronic toy for the sister, she insisted that I take a crappy doll instead - for free. Very sweet of her...little did she know what was going to result from her actions...

It has a few simple bends, including 2 glitch switches and one super-sub switch. When it makes some noises, the eyes move and the head lights up :)

Guinness Buddha

Take one Buddha Machine and one Guinness bar light thingy; bend the heck out of the already mad circuit that makes up the Buddha Machine (piezo mic, pitch and modulation body contacts, glitch switch and pot etc...) and then cross breed the two. What a pint!

Rhythmic Mic

Mad is the word! It was mad enough when I first got it home from the car boot sale but now with a momentary switch for the mic (making it function like a CB mic), a pitch & tempo pot, a couple of mashup body contacts and a line out, this really is a super mad feedback biatch!

Glitchdesk Bend Workstation

This is my new baby! It's not made by me - thanks john - but it represents a new approach to bending for me. Basically, you can patch and cross patch kit live - including midi control. I will get some further photos and details of my setup as they emerge.

Furby 1.0

This is my bent to f*ck furby. It has two multi bend glitch switches and an output. I really like my little furby and have used him to good effect i a live performance last year (MC Furby in da house!). I have plans to do a new furby soon and then ultimately to do a fully re-programmable furby...if the circuit kits are still available!? Anyway, here's a little sound snippet...just a basic loop, straight from the lips of my furby - loop_furb.mp3

There are lots of other cool things out there being done with furbys. The MIT Furby wall stands out as a top use for these lovely creatures but any proof of this project seems to have gone - BOO! Here is another nice MIT furby project though : ANATOMY OF THE FURBY

* cheers for the photo ben

Bent Friends

Through this hobby, I have had the fortune to meet lots of nice people. Some of them are just part of my local group of friends and some are from further afield.

One such person is Mr.Bugs, who is a top bloke making some mad stuff. He's much more than a simple bender, a mega talent! - check him out

He makes cool stuff, like this;
